Well, the final straw fro me to finally go get a new pair of glasses and some more contacts came today. I have been putting it off for a while. My prescription did not change. But, I really did not want to shell out the bucks for new frames, just contacts.
The sad fate of my beloved teal and black frames came from a very small boy. You see, I assist with an after school, intramural program.We have been playing soccer. These are second graders. I bent over to help someone tie a shoe. There were knots. So, I am kneeling on the floor, wrestling with tiny knots on a tiny shoe and then BLAMM-O! A soccer ball smacks into the left side of my face at what seemed like full force. My glasses go flying off my face, landing about 5 feet away from me. The nose pads dug just so forcefully into the sides of my nose, I thought it was almost broken. Then, there is the small boy, holding his hands over his mouth, looking stunned and a little scared. He has just realized that his music teacher is not ok.
So, I hear him apologize about 50 times and ask if I am ok. I tell him that I am fine but to not kick soccer balls that close to someone.
Immediately after the session, I call up the local fast glasses place and get an appointment. Two hours later I have new contacts, new glasses to pick up tomorrow (not as cute as the old ones but hey I am poor), and a big divot in my wallet.

Ready, Set, GO!
Tomorrow is the first of two days that last forever. Don't worry, this is not troubling. I love it.
You see, tomorrow is the first of two concert days. Meaning, all day I will be rehearsing my second graders on the concert they have been working on and then after a short break, the concerts in front of their parents. I would not trade these days from the world.
I first have to thank my teaching partner for doing this with me and keeping me grounded.
I gotta say, having a good friend who does your job with you has been the greatest gift of my job.
For those who don't know how planning for a second grade concert works, this is how we do it.
1. Beginning of the school year: fill out all paperwork needed for the performance space (gym) to make sure no one else uses it when you need it.
2. A few month before: come up with a theme and find songs to fit.
3. Tell the art teachers the theme and ask them if they would be able to come up with a project for the kids to create gym beautification.
4. 2 months before: start the kids on their songs. Any earlier and they get bored, any later is not quite enough time. Set up tons of crazy poems and saying so kids will remember stuff. Be super organized and a bit of a drill sergeant.
(Notice the stars on the buckets. They have numbers on them and the kids sit on the matching colored tape)
5. 1 month before: send out lost of notes to parents and all the other necessary people
6. Day before rehearsals: Spend the entire day setting up the performance space. Get volunteers, custodians, and art teachers to help you.
7. The week before: pull classes for practicing on risers and explaining how everything works
8. Morning of: Dress rehearsal in front of other classes and school staff
9. Concert night: Ready? GO!

11. Clean up and collapse

Better
Sorry.
I was out of line.
That last post was beyond my normal whiny. I apologize to anyone who read that.
I recently read Don Miguel Ruiz's book The Four Agreements. Read it. Read it now. Not the fastest to start for me or easiest to get through but, it was so truthful. What made it hard to get through was beginning to accept what was written. It is really hard to accept that you have created much of your reality and how you can change it.
I don't want to give everything about the book away. So, get it and read it. Because it was not life changing but mind changing for me.

Winter doldrum
*WHINY ALERT* I REPEAT *WHINY ALERT*
Do not read if you don't want to hear it.
I am in need of a boost. I don't know exactly what kind.
I need a pick me up from a friend to remind me that I don't suck or a token of appreciation from someone who sees me work my butt off. Maybe just a "Hey, you look sad. Here is something to make you feel less sad." (then that person hands over a bag of chocolates/IPad/New camera/stack of $100s)
I know, I sound like a greedy, whiny child. "But Daddy, I Want an Oompa Loompa NOW!!"
Reasons for need:
1. I have been sick with bronchitis and unable to perform my usual duties.
2. I know that I am overdoing it at work/stressing too much about work.
3. While not worse than before (better actually) the $ situation still troubles me and gives me hearburn (i.e.more stress)
4. Winter. I have been stuck in a snow cave. My couch has an imprint in the shape of my butt from 5 days without leaving the cottage.
5. General loneliness that comes from being isolated from the people I used to spend the most time with.
6. My stuff is falling apart in every direction and I don't have the money to replace it. This makes me nervous.
I feel a bit insignificant. Like I could fall off the Earth and no one would really notice or care.
Say hi to me. please?

Snow day movie watching
So, we signed up for Netflix through our Wii. We have a month long free trial and I figured, I better give it a run for it's money before I have to start paying for it. Because I have had 2 days off due to snow, this has been quite easy to do.
Here is what I have seen so far:
1. George Carlin- It's bad for ya.
2. Blade runner (Kyle's choice- I fell asleep)
3. Alice in Wonderland (the new one)
4. The Princess and the Frog.
5. What Ever Happened to the Morgans?
6. Jim Gaffigan: Beyond the Pale
7. The Ugly Truth
8. Program from NOVA about dogs
9. Food Inc.

No, my husband is not cheating on me.
But, he does have a computer. That plays all sorts of games. I call it "the other woman." I call it that because I feel like he spends more time with it than with me. Also, because I think he likes it better some of the time.
It was down for a long time and let me tell you, when we thought it was dead and never to be heard from again, I was secretly (or not so secretly) thrilled. Well, the beast is back up and running and I am once again feeling replaced. And a little bit lonely.
I hate the damn thing.
But, he does have a computer. That plays all sorts of games. I call it "the other woman." I call it that because I feel like he spends more time with it than with me. Also, because I think he likes it better some of the time.
